Recently I found a bag of cocaine in my Chrysler. Today I called in a professional drug detection dog to see if she can find any more illicit narcotics!

Kinja'd!!!

Pita the drug detection dog, and my coked out Chrysler.

Ever since !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! in the ashtray of my !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! , I’ve been worried there are more hidden drugs that I don’t know about. Is there more cocaine stashed under the carpet, or in the trunk that I haven’t been able to get open yet?

I’d like to drive my Chrysler around without concern, and be absolutely sure there are no more illicit substances anywhere inside. And as it turns out, you do not need to call in the police to do this type of work—there are private drug detection organizations that will search schools, companies, teenagers’ bedrooms, and vehicles.

I’ve called in the services of Amy Doerner and her professional drug detection dog Pita, to see if they can find any more drugs. Below is a video of the experience. This was an immensely fun video to shoot—incredible to see this talented and well-trained drug detection dog at work.

Anyone ever have their car searched by the police, or a narcotics detection dog?

If you’d like to join me on my journey of trying to not suck at making videos about cars and travel, feel free to follow me here: !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! . :)

I’m sure you’re glad there was no additional drugs, but I for one am a little disappointed :D

There was a marijuana vaporizer pen in my TSX when I bought it. I didn’t discover it for a month because it was in a storage pocket I didn’t know was there.

Did Amy require a cut if there was more dope found?

Haha. Yeah it might have made for a bit more of an intriguing episode had we found a few bricks of coke in the trunk!

A friend bought a moped and found a bunch of speed when I took the cover panels off. My ex’s car had an emptied baggie of what likely was cocaine after the police searched it after it had been stolen.

At least your car was a private sale. Mine was from Carmax!

I have a friend with a LeMons racecar. Should you not be familiar with LeMons you’re tightly capped at $500 for the car (but not the safety equipment that goes into it). His car started life as a Mercury Cougar. To get aound the budget cap he has purchased other Mercury Cougars and stripped them and sold all the parts except for one or two that get put into service on his “$500" car to game the system a little but in a perfectly by the book way. You’d think nobody would be looking for old Mercury Cougar parts and you’d be wrong. It shocked me to learn that too. He makes about $2k but earns it at about $7/hr with all the time/effort it takes stripping the car, sorting the parts, listing them, dealing with buyers, shipping it out, and keeping detailed notes of all of this to show his “$500" car with the shiny new LS crate engine is valid on paper.

Along with the original car this means that three cars have been stripped to parts and glass meth pipes have been found in all of them. I think I found 5-6 pipes in the last car I helped disassemble.

Feel free to draw whatever conclusions you like from that but whenever I see a Mercury Cougar I try to get a look at the owner.

Nah, I didn’t think it was a big enough deal to. As long as it took me to notice the storage pocket was there, I figured they wouldn’t have either. It was a rare car (manual 2nd gen TSX) for a good price and wouldn’t have been on the lot long enough for anyone to notice.

Police dogs will fuck your interior/exterior paint up if the handler is being a dickhead.

Great video!

I have to admit, I’m not big on having animals in my car (I don’t mind it so much with my truck though). So it was nice to see Pita’s fur kept nice and tidy. But I couldn’t help but cringe a little when I saw her jumping up and getting her paws on the paint. I hope those nails are kept trimmed...

Yeah I can see that could be a problem. Luckily Pita did not have long nails—otherwise she may have damaged the fine Corinthian leather!

Hey there! Thanks for the kind words! :) Not sure if the previous owner has seen this. If so, maybe I can give them back their baggie! The car came from an impound lot, so I don’t really know much about its history.

Thanks so much! Yes Pita was actually quite gentle, and did not have long nails. The leather in this car is in really great shape and she left no trace. Only time she was really crazy was when she was stomping on all the crap in the trunk! :)

It seems to me that if someone has personal experience with their car being searched for drugs (for reasons other than “I bought an old car on craigslist that turned out to have drugs in it and now I’m having a drug sniffing dog see if there are more drugs in it”), it might not be the best idea for them to share that information in a public forum such as this.

Those 5th Avenues are actually surprisingly decent by 80s standards. Even without the surprise in the ashtray.

If you’re driving a luxobarge, there’s no need to go fast. Just ease on up to the speed limit and enjoy the ride, maybe play some period-correct tapes.

I’ve figured in the value of roaches in cars I’ve bought. “I’ll give you $100 if you don’t empty the ashtray.” The 70's were a different time.

When my BIL died I took his car to the local police department to have a dog check it, in case he left anything inside. Didn’t want my sister to get stopped driving it later, and them find something he had left. The K9 officer did search it, but was annoyed. He asked what kind drugs might be in it. When I told him Cocaine he said, “Nah you’re wasting our time, coke addicts don’t forget where they leave a bag. Once they score it goes up their noise as fast as it can”. He didn’t find anything, but I guess your find disproves his theory.
